About snarko!
Frenetic. Composed. Reckless. Balanced.
snarko!'s paintings push the limits of figurative and narrative expression while retaining an unbreakable sense of compositional purpose.
A true abstractionist, snarko! means every single run, drip, or splatter, manipulates them with as precise intention as the subtlest watercolor wash, and extracts from them the very essense of each subject.
snarko!'s work is at once a contradction of the terms expression and order and a perfect synthesis of the two. While working at a relentless speed, she is always in perfect control of the chaos that she creates. From concept to execution, an artwork can take as long as two months to as little as two minutes.
snarko!'s paintings work at many different levels of viewing, from the bold statement of a cursory glance to a rich world of texture and detail for the viewer willing to linger longer. There's a narrative in every piece, whether it's the story of a Japanese ghost, an entire lexicon of a tarot deck, or the wandering of an errant fan brush.
For snarko!, intent is more important than medium. She will make the medium at hand do anything needed for the desired end.

What people are saying about snarko!:
The Austin Figurative Gallery presents the artwork of snarko!, much of which was made at the weekly life painting sessions in the gallery space.
This painter lets paint do what it wants to do, reigning it in just enough for it to serve her purposes. Then she smacks it around, literally. Her Ampersand boards can end up with frayed edges from the wacking-on-the-ground-with-wet-paint-on-them moments.
She has a great understanding of hand-lettering which surprisingly translates into her looser work. So you know what I mean, DeKooning was a sign painter. Knowing what you can and can't do with letters creates a specific ability in an artist for composition, even in work not involving letters.
Ol' Snarkford's loose paintings of models show the freedom she gained from having this knowledge. Who'd have thought understanding kerning would be so useful?
~ David Ohlerking, AFG

"I hate it when you sit in front of me. I don't pay attention to the model."
~ Scott Ewen, AFG

"Your paintings look like a model drive-by shooting."
~ Dave, AFG and professional dancer
